Hi guys,
We have 2 vSphere environments (v4 and v5) and the end result of my current task is for a cluster on the v4 side to be upgraded and put on the v5 side (without bringing down VMs). The cluster has 4 hosts and about 12 VMs. My plan was as follows:
1. Disconnect the 4 hosts from the v4 environment, create a new cluster in the v5 environment and add the hosts to the new cluster
2. Move v4 licenses from the v4 environment to the v5 environment (this should work right?)
3. Utilize vMotion to move VMs around to free up hosts one at a time so I can rebuild them with ESXi5.
4. Replace VMFS3 datastores with VMFS5 datastores.
5. When I am able to, upgrade VMware tools and the hardware level. Does upgrading the hardware level ever have an adverse effect or require a reboot of the VM?
Am I forgetting anything?
Thanks a lot.
Steve
