I am working on deploying 2 labs to be virtualized. My issue is that the college I work for has students that are predominantly low educated/skilled lumber mill worker learning how to find new skills for new employment. Right now I have it setup when a student sits down, all he or she has to do is use a simple login to get connected to the desktop pool and use the same login for the Windows Machine. This has proven to be to much for these students and now I am looking to figure out a new way of handling computers labs and now reaching out to the vmware communities on best practice other schools/colleges/universities handle their labs.
Problem:
- Need simple solution to lab users to get onto desktop.
- Students are very low skilled with writing\math and thus computers. This make the need for as simple solution as possible.
- Can not use auto login via GPO, this will cause the Connect Server to identify all the machines as already dispersed and prevent any desktop being issued to the student logging in.
Solution Needed:
- I have two labs with different hardware
- slim clients - I am researching how to get the clients to auto logon the connect server. I know this can be done and I am configuring this now.
- Re-purposed PC's. I can make the Horizon View client to auto select the correct connect server, but it can not go any further than that. Anyone have suggestions on how to get the View Client to auto connect to the correct Connect server?
- How does everyone else in an educational setting get students to log onto their desktops? We do not have students in AD, so the desktop use the same login name. The account is extremely limited to just logging onto the desktop and do normal functions to just open apps, access internet, and print.
Any suggestions how other school handle their labs would be extremely appreciated.
