Nested Hyper-V not working EXSi 6.0 U2

Hi all,

I am using a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with dual Xeon Quad Core 5450 and 32Gigs of RAM. I was trying to set up an MCSA lab in EXSi.

When I tried to install Hyper-V role in Server 2016 I was getting the following error:

I tried different methods to fix this issue like adding, several additional lines to the vmx file and restarting but still, I am stuck here.

I could find different forums where people were able to work but I fail to do so. Also after adding lines and changing Virtualization to "Hardware, Software MMU", the VM says Intel EPT is not supported by the host.

Could someone please help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Could you tell me if the latest security patch for ESXi 6.7 (VMSA 2018 0016) can be applied to the FREE version of esxi.

Thank you.

Corrupt VM after stopping it via ESXi

$

In scope of a migration process, I was using vSphere Converter to convert some VM's from one to another hypervisor (ESXi 6.5). In that process I used special chars which is not advised (gave issue when trying to replicate them with VEEAM). In order to convert them, I stopped the VM, renamed it (actually converted it to the new name), checked the new VM and removed the old one.

This worked fine for most VM's, but one had severe issues.

When stopping the VM named "[DEV] fhml-srv019 Ubuntu Maarten" (Ubuntu 14.4 upgraded to 16.4) via the ESXi (6.5) gui with the stop button, it took quite long to shutdown. Actually the gui didn't show me that it was stopped. When I checked in Converter after a few minutes, I didn't see this VM at all! But I saw suddenly another (stopped) VM named "/vmfs/volumes/541abbb4-c091ccfe-7be6-40a8f02a99b8/Ubuntu Maarten dev/Ubuntu 14.04 vmx09_1.vmx". After a refresh the ESXi gui showed the same. This file didn't exist on the datastore! The folder had the name of the VM before the previous conversion!?! And in that folder only 1 file was present:

[Roger@FHML-VM002:/vmfs/volumes/541abbb4-c091ccfe-7be6-40a8f02a99b8] ls "Ubuntu Maarten dev" -l

total 104857600

rw------ 1 root root 107374182400 Jul 19 06:46 Ubuntu 14.04 vmx09_1-flat.vmdk

We were able to create a new VM (for development purposes) from a template and were able to restore the vmkd definition file (VMware Knowledge Base ). The vmdk flat file contained all information and was mounted, so all required data could copied to the new VM. So after some extra work no data was lost and work could continue within a few hours :-)

But I'm a bit concerned as I don't have a clue what caused this issue (corrupting a VM when stopping it via ESXi) and have still some VM's to go. I couldn't find an answer when googling.

Has anyone experienced this issue as well? Or has anyone an idea what could have caused this behaviour and how to prevent it?

If you need more info, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

I am trying to make a demo app for Android in VS2017 on the following machine. CPU - i7-3840QM, 16GB DDR3 Ram, 512Gb SSD. VS is installed in virtual machine (Win2008R2 in VMWare Workstation 12). I have to wait up to hours till appearance of my Android app in Qemu. During all that time I see nothing but this picture in the guest OS Task Manager. How can I make it work faster?

Vmotion over stacked switches

Yello folks,

I currently have a simple infra set up

1) 2 ESXi Host

2) 1 Aruba 2930F switch

3) 1 MSA 2050 SAN storage

MSA is connected to both the ESXI host over ISCSI, vmotion, virtual machine all are configured on different VLAN.

Everything works great.

Now the thing is we are planning to provide redundancy at switch level. So planning to add one more Aruba 2930F and stack them.

But i am not really sure on how to go about vmotion Config?

1) Will i need two physical port on each server?

2) I team those ports and distribute each port to on stack member and do LACP between those two pysical ports?

Any help or document will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

SN

Howdy Folks,

I am currently deploying VCAV in my lab and I am stuck at point where I am unable to configure vSphere Replication Cloud Service Appliance

From VCAV root console I fired below command:

vcav hcs wait-for-extension --hcs-address=$HCS01_ADDRESS --vcd-address=$VCD_ADDRESS1 --vcd-user=$VCD_USER --vcd-password-file=~/.ssh/.vcd --sso-user=$SSO_USER --sso-password-file=~/.ssh/.sso --debug

Note: I have multi-cell vcd in my lab and IP address of the 2 vCD appliance are 192.168.109.30 and 192.168.109.31.  I have not configured public address in vCD.

Hello Friends,

Host Machine Configuration:

Cisco UCS C220M4

2 Intel Xeons (10 Core)

128 Gb Memory (16Gb * 4)

ESXi 6.5 (Essentials License)

Guest OS:

Windows Server 2012 R2 (Installed with VMWare Workstation Pro 12)

GNS3 VM OVA is sucessfully imported to VMWare Workstation But when i am trying to power on the GNS3 VM it is popping me this error "This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest operating systems. However, 64-bit operation is not possible.  This host does not support Intel VT-x."

I Checked the Guest OS settings at ESXi and as well as VMWare Workstation Pro. I found that both are enabled with Intel VT-X

Is n't it allowed, running a Hypervisor over Guest OS.

Courses

Books

  • Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach — Stuart Russell & Peter Norvig
  • Also consider browsing the list of recommended reading, divided by each chapter in “Artificial Intelligence: A Modern Approach”.
  • Paradigms Of Artificial Intelligence Programming: Case Studies in Common Lisp — Paradigms of AI Programming is the first text to teach advanced Common Lisp techniques in the context of building major AI systems
  • Reinforcement Learning: An Introduction — This introductory textbook on reinforcement learning is targeted toward engineers and scientists in artificial intelligence, operations research, neural networks, and control systems, and we hope it will also be of interest to psychologists and neuroscientists.
  • The Cambridge Handbook Of Artificial Intelligence — Written for non-specialists, it covers the discipline’s foundations, major theories, and principal research areas, plus related topics such as artificial life
  • The Emotion Machine: Commonsense Thinking, Artificial Intelligence, and the Future of the Human Mind — In this mind-expanding book, scientific pioneer Marvin Minsky continues his groundbreaking research, offering a fascinating new model for how our minds work
  • Artificial Intelligence: A New Synthesis — Beginning with elementary reactive agents, Nilsson gradually increases their cognitive horsepower to illustrate the most important and lasting ideas in AI
  • On Intelligence — Hawkins develops a powerful theory of how the human brain works, explaining why computers are not intelligent and how, based on this new theory, we can finally build intelligent machines. Also audio version available from audible.com
  • How To Create A Mind — Kurzweil discusses how the brain works, how the mind emerges, brain-computer interfaces, and the implications of vastly increasing the powers of our intelligence to address the world’s problems
  • Deep Learning — Goodfellow, Bengio and Courville’s introduction to a broad range of topics in deep learning, covering mathematical and conceptual background, deep learning techniques used in industry, and research perspectives.
  • The Elements of Statistical Learning: Data Mining, Inference, and Prediction — Hastie and Tibshirani cover a broad range of topics, from supervised learning (prediction) to unsupervised learning including neural networks, support vector machines, classification trees and boosting — -the first comprehensive treatment of this topic in any book.
  • Deep Learning and the Game of Go — Deep Learning and the Game of Go teaches you how to apply the power of deep learning to complex human-flavored reasoning tasks by building a Go-playing AI. After exposing you to the foundations of machine and deep learning, you’ll use Python to build a bot and then teach it the rules of the game.
  • Deep Learning for Search — Deep Learning for Search teaches you how to leverage neural networks, NLP, and deep learning techniques to improve search performance.
  • Deep Learning with PyTorch — PyTorch puts these superpowers in your hands, providing a comfortable Python experience that gets you started quickly and then grows with you as you — and your deep learning skills — become more sophisticated. Deep Learning with PyTorch will make that journey engaging and fun.
  • Deep Reinforcement Learning in Action — Deep Reinforcement Learning in Action teaches you the fundamental concepts and terminology of deep reinforcement learning, along with the practical skills and techniques you’ll need to implement it into your own projects.
  • Grokking Deep Reinforcement Learning — Grokking Deep Reinforcement Learning introduces this powerful machine learning approach, using examples, illustrations, exercises, and crystal-clear teaching.

Programming

Philosophy

  • Super Intelligence — Superintelligence asks the questions: What happens when machines surpass humans in general intelligence. A really great book.
  • Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence And The End Of The Human Era — Our Final Invention explores the perils of the heedless pursuit of advanced AI. Until now, human intelligence has had no rival. Can we coexist with beings whose intelligence dwarfs our own? And will they allow us to?
  • How to Create a Mind: The Secret of Human Thought Revealed — Ray Kurzweil, director of engineering at Google, explored the process of reverse-engineering the brain to understand precisely how it works, then applies that knowledge to create vastly intelligent machines.
  • Minds, Brains, And Programs — The 1980 paper by philospher John Searle that contains the famous ‘Chinese Room’ thought experiment. Probably the most famous attack on the notion of a Strong AI possessing a ‘mind’ or a ‘consciousness’, and interesting reading for those interested in the intersection of AI and philosophy of mind.
  • Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid — Written by Douglas Hofstadter and taglined “a metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll”, this wonderful journey into the the fundamental concepts of mathematics, symmetry and intelligence won a Pulitzer Price for Non-Fiction in 1979. A major theme throughout is the emergence of meaning from seemingly ‘meaningless’ elements, like 1’s and 0’s, arranged in special patterns.
  • Life 3.0: Being Human in the Age of Artificial Intelligence — Max Tegmark, professor of Physics at MIT, discusses how Artificial Intelligence may affect crime, war, justice, jobs, society and our very sense of being human both in the near and far future.

Hello

I am looking for expert advise to prepare a high level design document. Most of the time our implementation engineers are challenging the high level design. They are expecting detail solution approach (for example they are asking how to migrate standard to dvswitch ).. like that..

If some one help me to prepare a vsphere high level solution template will be very useful..for my life.
